Tomorrow marks my first day at my new gig. After my last post, I asked for my readers to stay tuned (in large part because my Dad still hadn’t called me back, but he got an update via text instead) and now I can officially break the news!
First, let me give you some background: I’ve been unemployed most recently for 3 weeks, but I haven’t had a “career” since 2009 when I was laid off from Samsung in Silicon Valley, California. Since 2009 I have done odds and ends jobs like my makeup gigs and I worked at a salon in Palo Alto as the resident esthetician. When I moved to Las Vegas 2 years ago I thought I would find a career in no time because I had a rather strong resume. WRONG!! Vegas has an even higher unemployment rate than the bay area, plus Vegas is very much about WHO you know and not WHAT you know. I ended up working in the casino industry to make ends meet. The goal was to establish myself in Vegas (and pay the bills) and keep up with interviews for something more in line with my goals. Well, after 2 years and 3 months and hundreds of interviews, my life is finally back on track! While I was interviewing for these 2 years I was getting so incredibly discouraged. I found that either the company didn’t feel like a good fit, they ended up hiring a friend of a friend at the last minute, or they decided to go with someone else by a margin of difference. Patience and persistence definitely paid off in this case because it landed me where I am at now. Everything happens for a reason, right?
I can’t begin to explain how much of a perfect fit my new position is with my background. When I say “perfect” I’m telling you that if I was asked what I wanted to do for the rest of my life my answer would be, “I want to combine my esthetics background with my marketing background.” Well, guess what I’ll be doing?! I’m an Account Coordinator at Total Social Solutions. They are a social media marketing company that assists aesthetic medical practices by getting customers to walk through their doors through social media marketing. I get to use my esthetics experience, my marketing experience, and I get to write!! I will be paid to do this – are you kidding me?! Now my last post title makes more sense, doesn’t it??
The company has a 90-day evaluation period, to ensure that both employee and employer are a good fit and after 90 days, they decide whether to give you an offer. Of course I’m going to work my bum off and get an offer, that’s not even a question. I’m just so anxious because it’s something that I have wanted for so long and it is FINALLY happening. My life is unfolding in the best of ways and it’s just as I had hoped.
Tomorrow, January 28th, is day 1. In 90 days it will be April 27th, which is a Saturday. If all goes as planned I will have an offer when I come in the office that Monday. Maybe even before then, who knows?! I look forward to another blog update in 90 days’ time and I can write all about the best opportunity of my life to date. In the meantime, I’ll keep you updated on the trials and tribulations that happen when a not-so-patient lady waits anxiously for the next chapter of her life to unfold.
Cheers to patience and dreams coming true!
